'Belay' is a climbing term for assisting a partner through difficult moments of a journey.
After many years of therapeutic experience and practicing different modalities and methods, I developed a simple, age/life appropriate, and effective approach to help one individual at a time.
I call it the Pillars of Change. Geared towards helping young adults facing a life dilemma, these pillars provide a space and structure for meaningful introspection and inspired personal growth.
This approach increases the likelihood of young adults feeling respected, empowered, and invested in developing a solid plan for the future. Giving the individual responsibility and choice allows them to take ownership of their own process of self-improvement. They report feeling actualized rather than being in therapy or a traditional program.
Belay can also can provide family-supported experiences such as during a family vacation or intentionally-designed adventure.
You choose your journey and how you experience it. You identify the changes you want in your life. You choose new and existing skills to explore. For young adults, the power of personal choice is a huge indicator to the opportunity and likelihood of lasting change and consistency in life.
Adventure is an integral part of life that leads to transformative experiences. We embrace adventure and seek out new experiences that challenge you to grow and become the best version of yourself. Belay is designed to be fun, just like life should be, but we find a good balance of adventure and recovery.
We use nature to inspire change and new hope. Whether you choose Hawaii or the PNW, connecting with your surroundings will allow you to better connect with yourself. During your experience, nature is prevalent but not forced in terms of living outside or surviving in a wilderness program setting. Nature teaches us so much so it is an important theme in your experience.
Through all of these experiences, participants will learn about the mindfulness that comes from living in a different culture and region of the world in a variety of ways. For example, through the gathering of your own food you feel self reliance and learn patience. Through the daily practice of health, fitness or Breath-work, you learn consistency and how to self-soothe - important skills to take back to daily life.
